Practical guide

Best private health checks by UK city

A city-by-city starting point for comparing private health assessments, preventative scans, biomarker testing and MRI screening.

How we approached this guide

“Best” should mean best matched to your goal—not the provider with the biggest test count or boldest promise. We looked for official evidence of a stable location, a clear assessment format, transparent test information and a route for results or follow-up.

This is a researched starting point, not a medical ranking or endorsement. Availability changes, and a branch may offer only part of a national provider's range.

Build a useful shortlist

  1. Write down why you are booking: reassurance, family history, fitness baseline, symptoms or ongoing tracking.
  2. Remove options that do not test the area relevant to that goal.
  3. Compare the named tests, not labels such as “complete” or “full body.”
  4. Check who interprets results and what follow-up costs.
  5. Confirm the exact branch and appointment type before travelling.

Start with our provider profiles for Neko Health and Bupa Health Assessments, then compare UK screening costs.

Do not overlook the NHS Health Check

If you are aged 40 to 74 and meet the eligibility criteria, the NHS Health Check is free and usually offered every five years. It focuses on cardiovascular risk and commonly includes height, weight, waist, blood pressure, cholesterol and sometimes blood sugar, plus lifestyle and family-history questions.

A private check may add convenience or broader testing, but paying does not automatically make a test more appropriate.

Frequently asked questions

Which city has the widest choice?

London currently has the broadest mix in our directory, including scan platforms, MRI providers, diagnostics networks and longevity clinics. Larger regional cities increasingly have national-provider branches.

Can I book in another city?

Usually, but confirm where follow-up happens. A nearby branch can be more practical if repeat tests or consultations are part of the programme.
